a month in

Well I’ve been working for the British Antarctic Survey for a whole month, and I havent really done much.

Most of my time has been spent getting to know the procedures, the people and the essentials that working here involves. I start my training proper on Monday, right after a 3 day stag-do in Krakow, Poland – so I’m not sure how awake I’ll be tbqfh. I’ve assembled a few HF radios, learnt the basics of radio communication, spent a few days in Aberdeen at a conference eating fancy foods and not paying a penny for anything. I’ve learnt a lot about the life at down South, and I’m eager as ever to get going. The group of people that have adopted me are a decent bunch of lads, and all of them have spent time in one form or another at one of the southern bases, and the stories I keep hearing make the wait til November seem even longer.

My itinerary for the next 4 months has been finalised, and I’m away on training for 3 weeks of every month, give or take. The netware course starts next week, then I’ve got a week off, then it’s a week on the Isle of Wight learning about HF radios, antennas, procedures and all kindsa other crap I havent even heard of … should be fun.
